Since the last plane left in November 2020, Tegel's listed hexagonal terminal has been earmarked for the Urban Tech Republic research campus, with the Schumacher Quartier — around 5,000 homes for more than 10,000 people — alongside it. Ground was broken in July 2026 on turning Terminal A into a campus for the Berliner Hochschule für Technik, with €170m of the roughly €450m from the federal special fund. The district expects 2,500 students from about 2030; the main construction is due to finish in 2032. A district park is pencilled in for 2027–2030, first homes from 2028/29, the rest through the 2030s.
