Schinkel and Persius built the ensemble between 1829 and 1841 as a stage set rather than a bath house, and it has been in a desolate state for years. Foundations, retaining walls, roofs, rendered facades, interiors, wall paintings and the garden architecture are all being put right. Work started in May 2024, the topping-out was celebrated in May 2026, and the reopening is planned for 2029 — in time for Schinkel's 250th birthday in 2031. Parts never shown before, including the viridarium and the stables, open with it.
