The site of Berlin's oldest square was cleared for a road scheme in the 1960s and has been excavated by archaeologists ever since; large-scale digs are still running. A second realisation competition closed at the end of April 2026. New squares, tree planting and paving that traces the outline of the old mint are planned, but no construction start or completion date has been published for the quarter.
