The park between the Spree and the TV tower, with its bronze Marx and Engels, has been mostly fenced off since early July 2025 for a €33.9m redesign by Grün Berlin: wide steps and a ramp down to the river, a 2,300 m² playground, almost 90 new trees and ground that soaks up rainwater. The riverside path has been shut too since November 2025, with signed detours. Archaeologists recorded cellars of the old houses on Burgstraße before they were covered over again. The Senate expects the forum to be mostly finished by the end of 2027 and said in February 2026 that the work is on schedule. The Rathausforum north of Spandauer Straße is redesigned after that, with the whole area due in 2030.
