Schinkel's 1821 house went through an energy overhaul from October 2022 to the end of 2023 — more than 34,000 window panes restored, new ventilation plant, high-efficiency chillers and LED throughout, cutting around 170 tonnes of CO₂ a year. It ran alongside the rebuild of the Gendarmenmarkt outside.
