The 278km line closed completely on 1 August 2025 for the first corridor renovation to touch Berlin. Long-distance trains went the long way round via Stendal and Uelzen, adding about 45 minutes; regional passengers got buses. The reopening set for 30 April 2026 was called off that February because the signalling work overran. The western half came back on 15 May 2026 and the whole line on 14 June. The bill rose from €2.2bn to about €2.7bn.
