The Federal President's office left the palace in July 2026 for a temporary seat on the Spreebogen, so that Bellevue can be renovated from top to bottom. About eight years are expected. Planning and building costs are put at €601m, with a further €188m held against risk. The palace was only ever open to the public on open days.
