Gropius's 1979 building shut in spring 2018 for restoration and a new museum tower by Volker Staab. Construction is now targeted to finish at the end of 2026, with public opening planned for winter 2027/28 — the latest of several slips. The budget has gone from €64m to €90m. A temporary bauhaus-archiv in Charlottenburg carries the programme in the meantime.
